| Obverse description | Facing crowned portrait of King James II within a beaded inner circle, the king depicted with a full frontal visage wearing a elaborate crown, the facial features rendered in the characteristic flat, stylised manner of mid-fifteenth century Scottish hammered coinage. The bust is unadorned below the crown, with the neck visible against the open field.
