Henry VIII struck Irish coinage in the names of himself and Jane Seymour between 1536 and 1537, a narrow window that began shortly after Anne Boleyn's execution in May 1536 and ended with Jane Seymour's death in October 1537 following childbirth. The pairing is historically unique — no other English or Irish royal coinage formally associates a king and his consort on circulating silver of this type. Ireland at this moment was also mid-transition, with Henry having declared himself King of Ireland only a few years away, making the Dublin mint's output politically charged well beyond its face value.
Spink 6473 is notoriously poorly struck on many surviving examples, a product of the Dublin mint's chronic die and flan preparation issues throughout this decade.
