| Obverse description | Crowned facing bust of David II within a double tressure of arches, the king depicted holding a sceptre with a star at its base; the spandrels of the tressure are left plain. The effigy is rendered in the medieval hammered style characteristic of late 14th-century Scottish coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with the royal legend disposed in uncial characters around the periphery between two concentric borders. |
