| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device features a long ornate cross patée, at the centre of which is placed a lozenge-shaped shield charged with a fleur-de-lis, the arms of Flanders, surmounted by an imperial crown. The four quadrants of the cross display additional heraldic and decorative elements consistent with Burgundian Netherlandish typology of the period. Flanking devices including what appear to be the Bruges mint mark and subsidiary symbols occupy the inter-cross spaces. A partial Latin circumscription runs along the outer edge of the flan, much of which is obscured by the coin's advanced wear and planchet damage. The overall execution reflects the hammered technique and Gothic artistic conventions of the mid-16th century Low Countries. |
