Arnold V ruled Loon during a period when the county was effectively caught between the competing pressures of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège and the Duchy of Brabant. His groats adopt the Namur castle type — a design borrowed rather than native to Loon — reflecting the broader political mimicry of smaller Meuse-valley lordships that needed commercial coinage recognizable enough for regional trade but lacked the minting tradition to develop independent iconography. Loon was absorbed into Liège in 1366, making all coinage from the county's final independent generations genuinely terminal issues.
