Obverse description Displayed eagle with spread wings, crowned, with head turned to the left, occupying the central field. The eagle's breast bears a shield with the arms of the Kingdom of Sicily. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, reading FERD · D.G· SIC· REX· N· O.V·, identifying Ferdinand III as King of Sicily by the grace of God. The design is rendered in a bold, somewhat archaic Baroque style typical of late 18th-century Neapolitan-Sicilian coinage.
