Additional information

Ferdinando III ruled Sicily as a largely autonomous kingdom after fleeing the mainland in 1798 — but this issue predates that flight, struck while he still nominally held Naples as well. The early 1790s were a period of administrative strain in the Sicilian mints, with copper coinage chronically underproduced relative to commercial demand. The MIR and Spahr references list multiple die variants across this two-year emission, suggesting hurried or fragmented production runs rather than a single coordinated issue.
