Obverse description Central field dominated by the quartered coat of arms of the Order of St. John surmounted by a grand master's crown, the shield displaying the characteristic cross of the Hospitallers. The arms are rendered in low relief typical of hammered copper coinage of the early seventeenth century. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, naming the Grand Master Fra Alof de Wignacourt, introduced by a cross pattée. The flan is slightly irregular, as is characteristic of hand-struck issues of this period.

Reverse description The reverse field bears a two-line Latin inscription arranged horizontally across the centre of the coin, reading VT COMMODIVS HOSPITALIS HIERVSALEM, referencing the Hospital of Jerusalem and the charitable purpose of the coinage. A decorative border or inner circle frames the legend, with additional lettering continuing around the outer periphery. The surfaces display characteristic roughness and uneven strike pressure consistent with hammered production. The overall composition is purely epigraphic, with no pictorial device, reflecting the utilitarian nature of this small-denomination copper issue.
