Glenk & Co.'s leather and shoe factory in Künzelsau was among hundreds of German private firms forced into emergency currency issuance during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsmark collapsed too fast for the Reichsdruckerei to keep up. Factory-issued Notgeld like this served as wage scrip — paid out to workers, spent locally, and theoretically redeemable at the issuing firm. In practice, redemption windows were often short and the notes frequently became worthless before workers could act.
Künzelsau's industrial Notgeld is modestly documented but rarely encountered in quantity today, as most small-firm issues were printed in limited runs and saw hard use.
