Werner of Falkenstein held the archbishopric of Trier through one of the more turbulent stretches of the Rhenish electoral politics, and his goldgulden issues fall squarely within the period when the Rhine electoral mints were operating under the cooperative framework of the Kurverein — the monetary union among the four Rhenish electors that standardized the gulden's fineness and weight from the mid-fourteenth century onward. Trier's output during Werner's tenure is relatively modest in surviving numbers, and Noss Be#315 represents one of the tighter variety distinctions within his short attributable striking window of just two years.
