The saint is depicted in a hieratic Gothic style typical of Rhenish goldgulden of the late 14th century. A circular beaded inner border frames the central type, with the archbishop's name and title rendered in Gothic uncial lettering within the outer legend: WERNERVS AREPVS TRE, identifying Werner, Archbishop of Trier. |

Four additional shields are arranged around the central device within the lobes of the quatrefoil: at upper left the arms of the Electorate of Trier, at upper right a cross, at lower left a lion, and at lower right diagonal barry arms, collectively representing the territorial and personal arms of Archbishop Werner of Falkenstein. A beaded inner border encircles the design, with the mint legend in Gothic uncial lettering in the outer field: MOnETA nOVA COnFLVEnCIS, denoting the new coinage struck at Koblenz. |
