The shield is rendered in the Gothic style with bold relief, characteristic of mid-fifteenth century hammered coinage. The entire device is enclosed within a circular inner border, with a peripheral legend in Gothic uncial characters reading + MOnETA ★ nOVA ★ AVREA ★ BAER, separated by star stops. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hand-struck gold coinage of this period. |
