Obverse description Central field features a large heraldic shield of the Barony of Baar, bearing a crowned lion passant, flanked by two additional smaller crowned lion devices arranged in a trefoil-like composition typical of late medieval Rhenish goldgulden design. The shield is rendered in the Gothic style with bold relief, characteristic of mid-fifteenth century hammered coinage. The entire device is enclosed within a circular inner border, with a peripheral legend in Gothic uncial characters reading + MOnETA ★ nOVA ★ AVREA ★ BAER, separated by star stops. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hand-struck gold coinage of this period.
