| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a trilobed composition featuring three interlocking arches or vesica forms, within which are set three heraldic shields arranged in a trefoil pattern: the upper two bearing the arms of the Moers family (crescent and cross motifs) and the lower one displaying the Cologne arms, all within a beaded inner circle. This distinctive 'drei Schilde' (three shields) type is characteristic of Cologne archiepiscopal goldgulden of this period. A circular legend in Gothic uncial lettering surrounds the composition, reading + MOnETA nOVA AVREA RI, indicating the mint at Riehl (Rheinau) and identifying the coin as new gold money. The execution is typical of the hammered Rhenish goldgulden tradition of the mid-fifteenth century. |
