| Reverse description | An ornate quatrefoil cross divides the field into four compartments, each containing a heraldic shield: the quartered arms of Cologne and the Palatinate at the top, the arms of Bavaria (lozengy) at the left, a smaller shield at the right, and the wheel of Mainz or a similar Electoral device at the base. The arms are set within Gothic-pointed lobes formed by the floral terminals of the cross. The surrounding circular legend in Gothic uncial script reads: + MOnE nOVA AVREA RILEn, denoting this as a new gold coin of Rhens (or the Rhenish mint). |
