| Obverse description | Facing enthroned figure of Christ seated within an elaborate Gothic architectural canopy, raising the right hand in benediction and holding an orb or book in the left hand. The throne and flanking pillars are rendered in detailed Gothic tracery style. Below the seated figure, the arms of the Archbishopric of Cologne appear in the lower field. The surrounding circular legend in Gothic uncial script reads: ROPERT EL C COnF COL, identifying the issuer as Rupert, Elector and Coadjutor of Cologne. |
