Obverse description Central field dominated by a large cross potent with crosslets, forming the arms of the Archbishopric of Trier, rendered in bold relief typical of late medieval hammered coinage. The cross divides the field into four quarters, each containing heraldic elements in the Gothic tradition. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, while a circular Gothic legend in uncial lettering runs along the outer periphery between two beaded borders. The inscription references the archbishop Raban of Helmstatt along with his title and monetary authority. The overall style reflects the Rhenish goldgulden tradition of the mid-fifteenth century.
