Obverse description Central field occupied by a quartered heraldic shield bearing the combined arms of the Archbishopric of Trier and the Bishopric of Speyer, surmounted by an ecclesiastical prince's crown. The partial date numerals appear within the field to either side of the shield. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the Latin legend running continuously around the periphery, interrupted by pellet stops, identifying the issuer as Philip Christopher, by the grace of God Archbishop of Trier, Prince-Elector, and Bishop of Speyer.

Reverse description Central device depicts the crowned Virgin Mary standing in a mandorla of radiating glory, holding the Christ Child before her, both figures rendered in the late Gothic Rhenish style typical of early seventeenth-century episcopal coinage. The Virgin wears a crown with a nimbus or halo above, and the Christ Child is positioned frontally against her body. The entire central group is enclosed within an oval mandorla of rays. A beaded inner border surrounds the design, with the Latin legend around the periphery reading MONETA NOVA AVREA PHILPSBVRG, identifying this as a new gold coin struck at Philippsburg.
