正面描述 Enthroned frontal figure of Saint Peter, patron of Trier, seated beneath a Gothic architectural canopy with twin flanking towers, nimbus visible behind his head. The saint holds a large key in his right hand and a book in his left, his robes rendered in fine drapery folds typical of late medieval hammered goldgulden. At the base of the throne, a small shield bearing the arms of Trier (a cross) is visible in the lower field. The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic characters reads OTTO ELECTVS TR, identifying Otto of Ziegenhain as Archbishop-elect of Trier, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border.

附加信息

Otto of Ziegenhain served as Archbishop of Trier from 1418 to 1430, and this gulden dates to the very opening of his tenure. He was a driving political force in the Hussite crisis period, and Trier's position as one of the ecclesiastical Electoral states gave its archbishops unusual latitude to strike gold coinage tied closely to Rhenish monetary agreements. The Rhenish gulden standard — maintained by a consortium of four Electors — governed the weight and fineness of these issues with unusual strictness for the era.

Noss 413 is among the earlier attributable types of his long archiepiscopate.
