Obverse description Central field displays a six-pointed star (Star of David) enclosing a heraldic eagle displayed, the whole set within a raised inner circle. The design is characteristic of late medieval German goldgulden struck at Nördlingen. A beaded border surrounds the inner device, with a circular Latin legend in uncial lettering running along the outer rim reading MAXIMILIANVS ROMANORA REX, identifying Maximilian I as King of the Romans.

Reverse description A full-length frontal figure of a standing saint, likely Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint associated with the Rhenish goldgulden tradition, rendered in Gothic relief style with flowing robes and holding an attribute before him. A small heraldic shield appears at the base of the figure. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with a circular Latin legend in uncial lettering around the periphery reading MONETA NO NORDLIN 98, referencing the Nördlingen mint and a date element (14)98.
