| Reverse description | Reverse depicts the standing figure of Saint Lebuinus (Lebuin), patron saint of Deventer, enthroned in frontal view and attired in episcopal vestments, holding attributes of his office. Below the saint's figure appears a heraldic shield bearing the arms of the city of Deventer. The composition follows the established tradition of civic goldgulden coinage, wherein the patron saint serves as the principal reverse type. The surrounding Latin legend identifies the mint as Deventer and incorporates the date 88 (for 1488), separated by pellet or star ornaments. The hammered execution results in a characteristically irregular flan with some weakness in the peripheral legend. |
