| Obverse description | Full-length frontal figure of Saint Peter, patron of Cologne, standing in relief within a gothic architectural arch flanked by two towers, each surmounted by a crown. The saint is depicted nimbed, wearing episcopal vestments, holding a long cross-staff in his left hand and a large key — his traditional attribute — in his right hand. A trefoil quatrefoil ornament appears at his feet. The surrounding legend in uncial characters reads: + CVnO AREP VS TREVERE, within a beaded inner border. |
