Aversbeschreibung Central field features a large heraldic shield bearing the combined arms of Cologne and Trier, displayed within an ornate quatrefoil frame decorated with pellets at each lobe. The shield, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of Rhenish goldgulden, shows the cross of Trier impaled with the stripes of Cologne. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend running continuously in the outer margin.

Reversbeschreibung Frontal half-length figure of St. Peter, nimbed and bearded, depicted beneath an elaborate Gothic architectural canopy with crocketed pinnacles and tracery, rendered in a style typical of late 14th-century Rhenish goldgulden. The saint is shown facing forward with attributes visible at the lower field. The figure is framed within the Gothic arcade, with the Latin legend encircling the design in the outer margin, separated from the central motif by a beaded circle.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Kuno of Falkenstein served simultaneously as Archbishop of Trier and administrator of the Cologne archdiocese following the death of Engelbert III in 1368 — an unusual dual role that lasted only until Wilhelm von Gennep's successor was properly installed. His authority to strike coinage for Cologne during this interim period rested on his administrative appointment rather than full archiepiscopal consecration, making these gulden a product of an interregnum rather than an established reign. The Rhenish gulden standard governing this issue had been fixed by the Kurverein of 1354, binding the four Rhenish electors to a common weight and fineness.
