Obverse description Central field features a large heraldic shield bearing the combined arms of Cologne and Trier, displayed within an ornate quatrefoil frame decorated with pellets at each lobe. The shield, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of Rhenish goldgulden, shows the cross of Trier impaled with the stripes of Cologne.
