Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the divided coat of arms of Cologne and Trier — quarterly displaying the cross of Cologne and the cross of Trier — is set within a quatrefoil or hexalobe frame. The shield is rendered in the Gothic heraldic style characteristic of Rhenish goldgulden of the mid-14th century. A circular legend in Gothic uncial lettering surrounds the inner beaded border. The overall composition follows the standard Rhenish electoral goldgulden type established by the Union of Rense.
