Kuno II of Falkenstein served as Archbishop of Trier from 1362 until his death in 1388, and his goldgulden issues fall within a period when the Rhenish electors were actively coordinating their gold coinage through a series of monetary unions. The 1354 and 1386 Rhenish unions — grouping Trier, Mainz, Cologne, and the Palatinate — were explicit attempts to standardize the gulden's weight and fineness across competing jurisdictions, making the precise dating of individual archiepiscopal issues consequential for understanding compliance and deviation from agreed standards.
Noss remains the authoritative reference for Trier ecclesiastical coinage, and the Be#68 attribution places this squarely in Kuno's middle issuing period.
