Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint Peter, the patron saint of Mainz, depicted in episcopal vestments with a slight turn to the right, holding a large cross-key in his left hand and a fleur-de-lis sceptre in his right. A nimbus surrounds the saint's bearded head. The Nassau shield of arms is displayed at the base of the figure in the lower field. A Gothic legend in Latin runs around the periphery within a beaded border.
