| Aanvullende informatie |
John Gottfried II von Guttenberg presided over the Bishopric of Würzburg during a period of acute financial strain following the devastations of the Thirty Years' War, from which the Franconian region had still not fully recovered decades later. Episcopal mints in this period frequently struck gold gulden as prestige instruments rather than working currency — a bishop asserting fiscal authority he only partially possessed.
Helmschrott 445 is the standard reference for this type within the specialized literature on Franconian episcopal coinage.
