Reverse description The reverse displays a large ornate heraldic shield quartered with multiple coats of arms of the Brunswick-Lüneburg territories, including rampant lions in the upper and lower quarters and saltires in the flanking compartments, with a small inescutcheon at the base bearing a further device. The shield is surrounded by a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend LAVS : IMM ORT : SEM: DEO distributed around the periphery with decorative stops. The die workmanship reflects the hammered technique typical of mid-sixteenth-century Lower Saxon gold coinage.
