1 Goldgulden - George Charles of Fechenbach

George Charles of Fechenbach zu Laudenbach was the last Prince-Bishop of Würzburg — secularization came in 1803 when Napoleon's reorganization of German ecclesiastical territories extinguished the prince-bishopric after over six centuries. This 1798 strike came just five years before that end, when the writing was already on the wall following the Treaty of Campo Formio. Fechenbach himself was eventually expelled and died in exile in 1808.

The Franconian goldgulden at .770 fineness reflects a coinage tradition that had persisted in the region since the medieval period, stubbornly resisting the shift to heavier, finer ducat standards adopted elsewhere.
