Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a crowned Bohemian lion rampant to the left, with bifurcated tail curling upward, filling the central field in bold relief. The surrounding legend, separated by pellets, reads F · D · G · REX · BO: G · P · R · EL · D · B, an abbreviated Latin titulature identifying Frederick V as King of Bohemia, Count Palatine of the Rhine, and Elector. The design is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German hammered gold coinage, with a slightly uneven flan typical of the period.
