Obverse description Standing full-length figure of Saint Peter, patron saint of Cologne, facing front in archiepiscopal vestments, holding a key in his right hand and a cross-staff in his left; the saint is nimbed with a beaded halo. Two heraldic shields flank the figure at shoulder height, one bearing the arms of Cologne (a cross) and the other the arms of the Saarwerden family. A mintmark 'S' appears at the base of the design. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial script reads FRIDICVS ARPS CON, referencing Archbishop Frederick (III) of Cologne.
