Obverse description Armored bust of Duke Frederick I of Württemberg facing right, wearing an elaborately decorated cuirass with ornamental gorget, the figure rendered in high relief in the Renaissance portrait style. The Latin legend encircles the effigy, reading FRIDERICVS D G DVX WIRTEMBERG, identifying the ruler by name and title. The portrait occupies the majority of the coin's field, with fine detail visible in the treatment of the armor and ruffled collar. The coin's irregular hammered flan is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German gold coinage.
