| Obverse description | Crowned and armored bust of King Frederick I facing right, wearing a richly draped mantle with visible collar and armor beneath. The effigy is rendered in a bold, late-Gothic hammered style characteristic of early sixteenth-century Scandinavian gold coinage. A Gothic crown surmounts the royal portrait, with fine detail in the facial features including a pronounced beard. The surrounding Latin legend reads FRIDERICUS D G REX DACIE 1531, interrupted by the bust, with the date 1531 incorporated into the legend. The irregularly shaped flan is typical of hand-struck gold coinage of the period. |
