Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Elector Frederick I of the Palatinate standing in the field, crowned and robed in electoral regalia, holding a sword in his right hand and an orb in his left. The figure is rendered in the Gothic hammered style characteristic of mid-15th century Rhenish goldgulden. A beaded inner circle frames the central device. The surrounding legend reads FRID` C` P R DVX BAV`, abbreviated for Fridericus Comes Palatinus Rheni Dux Bavariae, arranged within the outer border.
