| 裏面の説明 | The central coat-of-arms of the Archbishopric of Mainz is prominently displayed, flanked at each of the four cardinal points by additional heraldic shields, forming a cruciform armorial arrangement. The entire composition is enclosed within an angled quatrefoil frame, a device characteristic of late medieval Rhenish goldgulden coinage. The reverse legend is inscribed in Gothic minuscule lettering within the outer border. The design reflects the multi-quarterage heraldic conventions common to early fifteenth-century ecclesiastical coinage of the Middle Rhine region. |

Conrad III of Dhaun held the archbishopric of Mainz from 1419 until his death in 1434, but his goldgulden were struck under the monetary framework established by the Rhenish Monetary Union — an agreement among the four Rhenish electors (Mainz, Trier, Cologne, and the Count Palatine) that had been regulating gold coinage weight and fineness since 1386. The 1420–1421 dating places this issue at a moment when the union was actively policing debasement among lesser mints, making elector-struck gold the benchmark against which regional coinages were measured.
