| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of Waldeck: a shield bearing an eight-pointed star, surmounted by a helm with elaborate foliate crest flanked by two addorsed figures, all rendered in the late Renaissance heraldic style typical of German hammered gold coinage. The shield is surrounded by decorative foliage and mantling filling the inner field. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, reading MON NOV AUR COM WALDEC with the date 1616, separated by pellet stops. The flan is irregular and slightly wavy, characteristic of hand-hammered production of the early seventeenth century. |
