| Obverse description | Full-length frontal effigy of St. John the Baptist standing, vested in flowing robes, raising his right hand in benediction and holding a long cross-staff in his left; the figure is set within a beaded inner circle. A nimbus surrounds the saint's bearded head. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads ADOLVS AREPIS MAGH, identifying Archbishop Adolphus of Mainz, and is contained between two concentric beaded borders. |
