Obverse description The city arms of Magdeburg depicted as a fortified gateway with crenellated towers, surmounted by the figure of a bishop or saint in pontifical vestments holding a crozier, all within a circular legend. The date appears in the upper field above the central device. The design is characteristic of the hammered goldgulden coinage of the early Thirty Years' War period, rendered in relief against a plain field.
