背面描述 Saint Lawrence, patron saint of Nuremberg, is depicted in full-length facing view at centre, wearing ecclesiastical vestments and holding a gridiron — the instrument of his martyrdom — in his left hand while raising his right hand in blessing. The date of issue is divided by the saint's figure in the field to left and right. The circular Latin legend SANCTVS: LA - VRENTIVS. runs along the outer border within a beaded inner circle, identifying the patron saint.

附加信息

Nuremberg's goldgulden issues of this period reflect the city's position as a major node in the south German and Venetian trade networks, where gold coin of consistent fineness was a commercial necessity rather than a political gesture. The city council maintained exceptionally tight controls over its gold coinage — the .986 fineness here is not incidental but the product of rigorous assay practices that gave Nuremberg's issues a strong reputation among Flemish and Italian merchants.

The span of this type coincides almost exactly with the years of maximum tension surrounding the early Reformation, during which Nuremberg's council navigated carefully before formally adopting Lutheranism in 1525.
