Reverse description A pointed quatrefoil frame dominates the field, enclosing the quartered or composite city arms of Cologne. In the four angles formed by the quatrefoil lobes are placed the heraldic shields of the four Rhenish Electors: Mainz above, Cologne to the left, Trier to the right, and Bavaria (for the Palatinate) below. The reverse legend in Gothic uncial lettering is distributed around the outer border, separated by stops.
