Obverse description Enthroned frontal figure of Saint Peter, the patron saint of Cologne, depicted with nimbus, raising his right hand in benediction and holding a tall patriarchal cross-staff in his left; the figure is seated between two stylised tower structures evoking the cathedral. Below the throne, the arms of the City of Cologne — a crowned shield bearing three crowns — are displayed prominently in the lower field. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with an uncial Latin legend running along the outer border.
