| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of Philip II facing right, wearing a crown and ruffled collar, rendered in high relief in the hammered style typical of mid-16th-century Netherlandish coinage. The portrait is boldly struck, with fine engraving detail visible on the armor and crown. The circumferential legend reads in Latin, identifying the ruler as Philip, by God's grace King of Spain and England, Count of Holland. A small decorative rosette separates the beginning and end of the legend. The field surrounding the bust is plain. |
