| Obverse description | Armored and crowned bust of Philip II facing right, wearing a richly detailed cuirass with gorget and ruff visible at the collar, the beard and features rendered in the characteristic portrait style of the period. A jeweled crown surmounts the head. The circumferential Latin legend runs along the outer border, identifying the ruler by name, divine grace, and his titles as King of the Spains and Count of Flanders. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered coinage of this era. |
