| Obverse description | Enthroned frontal effigy of Charles V in full armour, wearing an imperial crown, holding a sceptre in his right hand and a cross-topped orb in his left. The figure is depicted in a late Gothic style characteristic of Flemish hammered gold coinage of the period. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding Latin legend. The inscription runs clockwise around the periphery, identifying the ruler as Emperor of the Romans and King of the Spaniards. |

| Reverse description | Crowned imperial double-headed eagle displayed, its wings spread, bearing on its breast a large quartered heraldic shield containing the multiple arms of Charles V's dominions, including Castile, León, Aragon, and Burgundy among others. The shield is elaborately rendered in the Gothic tradition. A beaded inner border frames the central device, and the devotional Latin legend encircles the periphery reading clockwise from the top. |
