| Beschrijving keerzijde | An ornate floriated triple cross centered within an elaborate quadrilobe frame, itself inscribed within a beaded inner circle; the four lobes are decorated with Gothic foliate ornament in keeping with the artistic conventions of early sixteenth-century Netherlandish coinage. The arms of the cross extend to the quadrilobe border, dividing the field into four symmetrical compartments. The surrounding legend in Latin presents the Solomonic injunction to rulers to love justice, separated by decorative stops. |

Charles V was only seven years old when he inherited the Duchy of Brabant in 1506, with his aunt Margaret of Austria serving as regent. The Gold Fleece — named for the Order of the Golden Fleece, of which Charles was sovereign — was issued under that regency administration as Brabant's prestige gold coinage. The Order itself had been founded by Philip the Good in 1430, and its monetary invocation here was deliberate political theater, tying the young Habsburg heir visually and symbolically to Burgundian chivalric tradition during a period of contested authority.
Delmonte lists three distinct varieties (G#90, 91, 92), distinguished primarily by subtle die differences in the collar and fleece rendering.
