| Reverse description | Two standing apostolic figures occupy the full field in a frontal, hieratic arrangement: at left, Saint Peter, identifiable by his papal vestments and the keys of heaven held at his side, and at right, Saint Paul, depicted as a bearded elder holding a book and with a sword partially visible. Both saints are rendered in a flat, late-mannerist style typical of Roman Baroque hammered coinage. A mintmark or control mark appears in the lower central exergual area between the two figures. The circumferential legend S * PETRVS * S * PAVLVS * ROMA * identifies the saints and the issuing city, punctuated by decorative mullets. |
