Obverse description Central field displays the Medici armorial shield set within an ornate cartouche, charged with the characteristic Medici palle (balls) arranged in the traditional family pattern. Surmounting the shield are the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the papal tiara, rendered in fine relief. The surrounding legend is arranged along the coin's border within a beaded inner circle, reading the papal titulature in Latin capitals.

Reverse description Full-length figure of Saint Peter standing facing, draped in flowing classical robes, holding an upright sword in his left hand and an open book in his right. The figure is rendered in the Italian Renaissance style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century papal coinage, with carefully articulated drapery folds. The circular legend runs along the coin's periphery within a beaded border, identifying the subject as the patron saint of Rome.
