Reverse description The reverse depicts the standing figures of Saints Paul and Peter facing one another in the field, each identified by their traditional attributes: Saint Paul on the left holding a long sword, Saint Peter on the right holding a key and a book, both haloed and draped in flowing robes in the manner of Renaissance ecclesiastical iconography. Between them at the lower center appears the Ancona anchor mark, the mintmark of the Ancona mint. The surrounding legend names both saints and the issuing mint, reading S PAVLVS and S PETRVS with MARCO below, all in incuse Latin lettering within a beaded inner border.
