Reverse description The Annunciation scene occupies the full field, depicting the Archangel Gabriel kneeling at left, holding a palm frond, before the Virgin Mary seated at right, both rendered in high relief in a baroque figural style. The abbreviated legend ECCE ANCILLA DO (Ecce Ancilla Domini — Behold, the handmaiden of the Lord) arcs around the upper portion of the coin. The date appears in the exergue below the figures, as seen here as 1677.
